KENYA
A video-performance documentary about the artist’s eventful summer on the continent and the political, emotional and spiritual transformation that resulted. She set off to Kenya in summer 2006 for a school program and to finally make it to the much romanticized “Motherland.” After lost luggage, missed flight connections, severe fever and swollen lymph nodes, social alienation, a cross-Atlantic break-up, a car accident, stolen computer and journal, and several episodes with parasitic chicken – it would be an understatement to say the experience changed the artist’s life. Since then, it has been impossible to sum up the many seemingly tragic dimensions of her homecoming and answer the well-meaning but naïve and question, “So, how was Kenya?”

UNCLE RODRICK
My uncle, a truck driver, was imprisoned for illegaly carrying Mexican Nationals across the Texas border. Though he had gainful employment and a clean record, the judge denied probation and opted to “make an example out of him.” The documentary will explore the logic of the prison industrial complex and the effects of the modern day judicial lynching.

IN PRODUCTION

BRIXITY
Newark has a burgeoning, vibrant, and thriving arts community. Amidst the city’s vigorous rebranding and resurrection, does anyone in Newark seem to notice? Brixity talks to artists, gallery owners, curators and other cultural leaders during and after the Annual Open Doors Artist Studio Tour, which coincided with the grand opening of the Prudential Center Arena. They contemplate their relationship with Newark, its future and potential, and their barriers to inclusion as one of the city’s treasures.

IN POST-PRODUCTION

ANATOMY OF DESIRE
Collaboration with Verticies Dance Company in Brooklyn. This experimental video explores the mind, body and perception altering nature of what we experience when we begin to “fall in love” in the wake of an eruption of sexual desire through the media of dance and video/film. A work-in-progress being created in two phases it employs a cast of dancer/actors highly diverse in ethnicity and age to create characters who envision liaisons that suggest equivalently disparate orientations and points of view.
